This movie wasn’t at all what I expected. I am, however, an uninformed watcher, as I didn’t read the book, nor saw the trailer – I had simply seen the poster and knew that it was nominated for some Oscars, but didn’t even know for which categories.

Now I know it is nominated for Best Original Score, Best Supporting Actress and Best adapted screenplay. Regina King does, indeed act beautifully – with passion and emotion, which I didn’t really see with Kiki Layne’s character, for example. On the whole, I think I expected more passion in the movie, which is why I was somewhat confused by it. However, the story is, of course, very moving and the love they share beautiful, if a bit short of passion on the outside.
